sentence writing and paragraph writing

Let’s talk about IELTS writing first:

No matter if you are an Academic or a General Training candidate, you have to be good in sentence writing as well as paragraph writing for both task one and task two. Therefore sentence writing will be the first focus in my explanations.

There are three types of sentences you should use in your writings: simple sentences, compound sentences and complex sentences. Below you can find examples for each type of sentence.

A student should study everyday to improve his IELTS score.

A student should study everyday to improve his IELTS score, and a good teacher can be a great help in directing that student.

A student, who is really serious and is aiming for a high IELTS score, should study everyday to improve his score.

In case you write a combination of those three sentence types in your writing and consider using a variety of “academic vocabularies” and “grammatical structures”, you will be bound to gain an excellent mark.

What about paragraph writing? Well put those sentences explained above together in a logical way and that will be your paragraph. Although that is not about everything yet! You have to consider stating your main idea first in your paragraph and then relating all the other sentences coming forth.

A good paragraph starts with a main idea, which is expressed in the Topic Sentence. Pay attention that “Topic Sentence” is a sentence in your paragraph that contains the main idea, and the main idea is the most important point of your paragraph being talked about or discussed in that paragraph. All the other sentences must support the main idea of the paragraph. If a sentence is not supporting the main idea, that sentence is redundant and must be omitted.

Later on, in my next topic, I will explain the difference between the first paragraph (introductory paragraph) and the last paragraph (concluding paragraph) of the essay with other paragraphs (body or supporting paragraphs).
